Green environment
To accomplish this, the concept starts with a green environment. Three green spaces are created, each with their own character and identity, with buildings meandering in between. The design of a sustainable school is determined by the concept, the choice of material and components, the long-term exploitation and energy efficiency.
Pleasant small scale
The project consists of five different elements designed in accordance with the target group’s specific requirements: a rehabilitation centre, primary school, secondary school, sports centre and boarding school.
The volumes are implanted so that users experience a pleasant small scale sensation. The enclosed and intimate green schoolyards allow children to feel at home within the school grounds. The spatial figure’s keystone - the secondary school - contains three building layers above ground. Through its accentuated height near the campus entrance, it gives the Kasterlinden presence a public face. The adjacent entrance square welcomes pupils and students to the school.
