Blue Gate warehouses by POLO nominated for RES Awards
New Year, New Award Category, and First Nomination for 2026
We’re proud to announce that POLO has been nominated for the RES Awards 2025 in the brand new category Logistics & Industrial Development for Montea Blue Gate.
For developer BGAB/ Bopro and Montea, POLO designed two warehouse facilities for smart logistics within a multi-modal site. Built in subsequent phases, these buildings are among the first to be realised in the new, eco-efficient Blue Gate business park. Due to their strategic location and visibility, these buildings were conceived as more than purely utilitarian infrastructure. Both in their urbanistic positioning and architectural expression they function as urban markers at the entrance to the city.
The phase I building, including its multi-storey carpark, is clad in a combination of solid and perforated metal panels in varying degrees of openness, ensuring natural ventilation and weather protection. It gives the building a monolithic, sculptural quality. Vertical fins introduce rhythm and depth, while the green-toned colour blends the building into the landscape. The robust, low-maintenance materials underline the project’s sustainable ambitions. The design preserves a green buffer between the two buildings, linking the eco-corridor of the Blue Gate masterplan to the Scheldt river.
The phase II building's bluish cladding refers to the historic petrol industry. Large picture windows break up rigorously repetitive façades, introducing daylight and views for the employees. A concrete plinth gives sculptural articulation to entrances and loading bays. Three office wings located on corners add a human scale to the sprawling warehouse complex. These are built entirely in sustainable CLT timber—a warm, tactile counterpoint to the industrial shell. In a world of steel and concrete logistics, this touch of wood brings an inviting human scale, proving sustainability can also feel natural and welcoming.
