Biomedical research centre for the University of Hasselt has entered the construction phase
The expansion of the BIOMED-cluster on the Diepenbeek campus of the University of Hasselt has officially entered the construction phase.
The project is part of the broader campus masterplan, which aims to transform the site from a dispersed collection of individual buildings into a coherent, green and interconnected academic landscape with clearly defined clusters for the different research domains. The new extension strengthens this vision by improving circulation, increasing functional flexibility, and reinforcing the architectural identity of the BIOMED cluster as a whole.
In 2024, the design by POLO Labs was awarded following an architectural competition, marking the start of its development phase. Since then, the project has progressed through detailed design and preparation, culminating in the transition to construction.
This project is part of the same overarching masterplan in which POLO recently won the competition for the chemistry research building for KU Leuven and UCLL (University Colleges Leuven-Limburg), further reinforcing a coherent approach to research and academic infrastructure across the region.
